Malachite Green FAQs

Is Malachite Green safe for all fish?

Malachite green is not for use with scaleless fish. Caution should be used when treating sensitive species such as tetras, barbs, dwarf cichlids, catfish, loaches, livebearers, gouramis and mormyrids. When treating these varieties pay close attention for signs of undue stress. If undue stress is observed, discontinue treatment, perform a partial water change, and start carbon filtration to remove residual chemical.

Do I need to change water before or after treatment?

Water changes are vital to maintaining the best possible water quality. Although not necessary, performing a partial water change before treatment will help improve overall aquarium conditions. We do recommend performing a partial water change when you have finished with any aquarium treatment.

How do I dose Malachite Green?

1.25 oz. dropper bottle dosing instructions:
Add 1 drop per gallon. For best results we recommend a 25% water change to your aquarium prior to treatment.

Powdered concentrate dosing instructions:
Remove top and slowly add water to the top of the bottle. Replace cap tightly and shake to mix (We recommend using Reverse Osmosis or Distilled water).
Add 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons. For best results we recommend a 25% water change to your aquarium prior to treatment. 4 ounces treats 240 gallons.

Can Malachite Green be used with other products in the aquarium?

We recommend removing carbon and similar products from your filtration system prior to treatment. Resume carbon use after treatment is complete.

Malachite Green can be used along with Formalin-MS.

Can Malachite Green be used as a prophylactic?

Malachite Green (as well as any other treatment) should not be added continually into any aquarium.

In what sizes is Malachite Green available?

Malachite Green is available pre-mixed in a 1.25 oz. bottle, and available as a just add water concentrate in a 4 oz., 16 oz., and 32 oz. bottle.
